Ingredient Breakdown
Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus), Fruiting Body
250 mg per serving (25% of the blend)
Declared as powdered fruiting body — the mushroom itself, not mycelium grown on grain.
That distinction is the reason it is stated this way. Most low-cost mushroom material sold in the US is mycelium cultivated on sterilised grain and milled together with the substrate, where the grain is usually the majority by weight. Published analyses of grain-grown material put starch at 33-68% of the finished powder, against 0.8-1.1% in authentic fruiting body.
Lion's mane has a long culinary and traditional-use history in Japan and China.
Black Rice (Oryza sativa L. indica)
230 mg per serving (23% of the blend)
A source of dietary anthocyanins — the dark purple-black pigments that give the grain its colour, from the same family of compounds found in blackcurrants and elderberries.
Thai black rice cultivars have been eaten as a whole grain across Southeast Asia for centuries. Here the whole grain is freeze-dried and milled rather than refined.
Matcha Green Tea (Camellia sinensis)
200 mg per serving (20% of the blend)
Whole stone-ground leaf rather than an infusion, which is what distinguishes matcha from brewed green tea. A traditional Japanese source of L-theanine and naturally occurring catechins.
Worth stating plainly: at 200 mg, the matcha here contributes roughly 5-7 mg of caffeine per serving. That is a small fraction of a cup of tea, and about what you would get from two squares of milk chocolate. This is not a stimulant product and is not built to feel like one.
Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum)
150 mg per serving (15% of the blend)
A climbing vine from southern China and northern Thailand, where the leaf has long been drunk as an everyday tea.
Its characteristic compounds are gypenosides — saponins structurally related to the ginsenosides in ginseng, which is why jiaogulan is sometimes grouped with it despite being an unrelated plant.
Black Ginger (Kaempferia parviflora)
100 mg per serving (10% of the blend)
A rhizome native to northern Thailand, dark purple in cross-section, and unrelated to common culinary ginger despite the name. Traditionally used in Thai herbal preparations.
Its characteristic compounds are polymethoxyflavones, which are also what give the rhizome its colour. This is the same botanical used in Marcapa Black Ginger, included here at 100 mg as a minor component of the six-herb blend.
Moringa Leaf (Moringa oleifera)
70 mg per serving (7% of the blend)
The leaf of the moringa tree, eaten as a everyday green across South Asia and East Africa and one of the more nutrient-dense leaves in common food use.
It is the smallest component of this blend at 7%, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.
