About Marcapa Amalaki (Amla)

Marcapa Amalaki is freeze-dried whole fruit amla — 500 mg of powdered Phyllanthus emblica fruit per capsule, 1,000 mg per serving. Whole fruit, not a concentrated extract.

Amalaki is one of the oldest and most widely used botanicals in Ayurveda, where it is classified as a rasayana: a rejuvenative taken consistently over time rather than a remedy for a named complaint. It appears in traditional preparations including Triphala and Chyawanprash, and is known in English as Indian gooseberry.

Its antioxidant activity comes from a family of naturally occurring polyphenols — hydrolysable tannins including gallic acid, ellagic acid and corilagin.

How the powder is made matters. The fruit is freeze-dried at low temperature rather than heat-dried, then milled and encapsulated. Both the polyphenols above and the fruit's naturally occurring vitamin C are heat-sensitive, so the drying method is not a detail — it is the difference between preserving what was in the fruit and cooking some of it off. The same process is used across every Marcapa botanical.

Whole fruit means the whole fruit: nothing concentrated, isolated or standardised out.

60 HPMC vegetarian capsules per bottle — a 30-day supply at 2 capsules daily. Take with food.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is amalaki?
Amalaki is the fruit of Phyllanthus emblica, known in English as Indian gooseberry and commonly as amla. In Ayurveda it is classified as a rasayana — a rejuvenative taken consistently over time rather than a remedy for a specific complaint. It appears in traditional preparations including Triphala and Chyawanprash.
Is this whole fruit or an extract?
Whole fruit. Each capsule contains 500 mg of freeze-dried, powdered amalaki fruit, with nothing concentrated, isolated or standardised out. Extracts concentrate selected compounds, so milligram figures are not directly comparable between an extract and a whole fruit powder.
How is the powder made?
The fruit is harvested at origin and freeze-dried at low temperature rather than heat-dried, then milled and encapsulated. Amla's polyphenols and its naturally occurring vitamin C are both heat-sensitive, so low-temperature drying preserves more of what was in the fresh fruit than conventional heat-drying does. We use the same process across every Marcapa botanical.
How much should I take?
Two capsules daily, which is 1,000 mg of amalaki fruit. Take them with food — amla is naturally sour and astringent, and food makes it easier on the stomach.
Can I take this with other supplements or medications?
Talk to your healthcare provider first, and especially if you take a blood thinner, an antiplatelet medication, or anything for blood sugar.
