About JoyBoon Immunity (5 Herb Blend)

JoyBoon Immunity is five botanicals: papaya leaf, Cordyceps militaris fruiting body, mangosteen pericarp, amalaki fruit and houttuynia leaf. A 2-capsule serving provides 1,000 mg, with each one's share disclosed.

These come out of daily practice more than out of a supplement aisle. Papaya leaf is simmered as a decoction across Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Caribbean and West Africa. Houttuynia — plu kow in Thailand, dokudami in Japan — is eaten fresh as a vegetable and drunk as tea. Amalaki is an Ayurvedic rasayana, taken steadily over time.

The cordyceps is Cordyceps militaris, and the powder is fruiting body. A good deal of what ships as cordyceps is a different species, or mycelium milled together with the grain it grew on. Both facts are on our label.

We print every percentage. The law asks only for a blend total and an order of predominance; the individual amounts are optional.

Each botanical is freeze-dried at low temperature, then milled and encapsulated. Drying cold splits the tissue along its cell walls and leaves a porous particle, which holds on to what heat would take.

60 HPMC vegetarian capsules — a 30-day supply at two a day, with a meal. One thing to check first: this contains papaya leaf, which carries latex proteins. If you have a latex allergy, speak to your provider before starting.

What Makes Us Different:

Freeze-Dried, Never Heat-Dried

Harvested at origin and freeze-dried at low temperature, then milled and encapsulated

Fruiting Body, Species Named

Cordyceps militaris fruiting body — not mycelium grown on grain, and not an unnamed species

GMP-Certified Facility

Produced in a facility audited by SGS against the Thai Ministry of Public Health standard

Ingredient Breakdown

Papaya Leaf (Carica papaya)

300 mg per serving (30% of the blend)

The dried leaf of the papaya tree — a different material from the fruit, and from papain, the enzyme drawn from it.

Papaya leaf is prepared traditionally across Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Caribbean and West Africa, usually as a decoction of the fresh or dried leaf rather than as a capsule. It is the largest single component of this blend at 30%.

Cordyceps militaris, Powdered Fruiting Body

200 mg per serving (20% of the blend)

Cordyceps militaris, declared as fruiting body rather than mycelium grown on grain.

The species is worth stating. Much of what is sold simply as "cordyceps" is either Cordyceps sinensis material or mycelial biomass milled together with its grain substrate, and the three are not interchangeable. Traditionally used to support vitality.

Mangosteen Pericarp (Garcinia mangostana)

200 mg per serving (20% of the blend)

The pericarp — the thick purple rind — rather than the white flesh that is eaten as fruit.

The rind is where the xanthones sit, a family of pigmented compounds including alpha-mangostin, and it is what gives the pericarp its colour. Provides plant antioxidants.

Amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica)

200 mg per serving (20% of the blend)

The fruit of Phyllanthus emblica, known in English as Indian gooseberry and commonly as amla. In Ayurveda it is classified as a rasayana — a rejuvenative taken consistently over time rather than a remedy for a named complaint.

Its antioxidant activity comes from a family of naturally occurring polyphenols: hydrolysable tannins including gallic acid, ellagic acid and corilagin.

Houttuynia (Houttuynia cordata) Leaf

100 mg per serving (10% of the blend)

Known in Thailand as plu kow and in Japan as dokudami. A low-growing herb whose leaf is eaten fresh as a vegetable across Southeast Asia and drunk as an everyday tea in Japan, where it is one of the few plants listed in the Japanese Medicines Codex.

It is the smallest component of this blend at 10%.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is in JoyBoon Immunity?
Five botanicals, 1,000 mg per 2-capsule serving: papaya leaf 300 mg (30%), Cordyceps militaris fruiting body 200 mg (20%), mangosteen pericarp 200 mg (20%), amalaki fruit 200 mg (20%) and houttuynia leaf 100 mg (10%). Nothing else but the HPMC capsule.
Which cordyceps species is this?
Cordyceps militaris, and the powder is the fruiting body. This matters more than it sounds. Much of the material sold as cordyceps is either Cordyceps sinensis or mycelium grown on sterilised grain and milled together with the substrate, where the grain can be the majority by weight. Species and plant part are both on our label.
How is the powder made?
Each botanical is harvested at origin and freeze-dried at low temperature rather than heat-dried, then milled and encapsulated. Freeze-drying fractures plant tissue between the layers of the cell walls rather than rupturing them, leaving a porous particle and preserving compounds that heat would degrade.
Why do you publish every percentage?
Because we do not have to. Federal labelling rules only require a proprietary blend to declare its total weight and list ingredients in order of predominance — per-ingredient amounts are optional. Publishing them lets you check the formula against anything else you are considering.
Is there anything I should check before taking it?
Yes. This contains papaya leaf, which carries latex proteins, so speak to your healthcare provider first if you have a known latex allergy. Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you take prescription medication, particularly a blood thinner or an antiplatelet, check with your provider before starting.
